I grew up fishing in the Madeira Beach area of St Petersburg, FL.
I met Capt Bob Lawrence when I was just a little younger than I am now... He owned and operated a 37ft charter boat. I owe him a lot for teaching me as a kid about fishing for Kingfish, Grouper, Mackerel, Cobia, and many other species.
When Capt Bob retired in the mid 70s I started fishing the flats of the Tampa St Pete area, fishing for Redfish, Snook, and Trout. I started off fishing the flats by wade fishing, then eventually purchased a Jon-Boat that I used to explore and fish more of the local areas, mainly targeting the Fort DeSoto area.
I got my Captains license in 2005, and I bought a new 19ft TwinVee Bay Cat. This boat is perfect because it allows us to fish both the shallow and nearshore waters of Tampa and St Petersburg.
Typically, I like to fish for Redfish and Trout, or go to Tampa Bay and fish for Spanish Mackerel or Mango Snappers.
I trailer my boat which allows me more flexibility in targeting various species, and extends my fishing area from Tampa Bay to Tarpon Springs. |
